Grit Girl

From North Mississippi

When I graduated, I stayed in my college town and worked at a local bakery. It was the most fun, most delicious couple years of my life, especially thanks to my friendship with Monica, the head pastry chef. She was always testing different recipes, and I was always eager to try them.

I eventually left Oxford for Nashville, and I left the food industry (kind of) for marketing. Monica stayed on at the bakery…until she didn’t. Like other millennials, I keep up with my friends on Instagram. Monica sent me a DM and said she started working at Grit Girl Grits. Then, like she always used to, she fed me.

Yes, I’m saying that Monica sent me food. Lots of it! I got a big box in the mail with cornmeal, grits, and polenta—and YES they are all different. I ate the polenta first, with roasted tomatoes and mushrooms. Heavenly. Superb. Will eat again.
