Peach Shortcake
If you ask what my favorite season is, I’ll say fall. If you ask what my favorite season for produce is, it’s summer all the way. 90% of my feelings about the best season for fruit + veg is thanks to The Peach Truck. Twice a week I happily walk a few blocks from my house to 12South for an $8 bag of the best peaches money can buy.
I usually try to do some baking come peach season–my grandmother’s cobbler and peach jam will live on forever–but my first two bags were so good I just ate them all plain. Juice literally squirted out all over the floor on my first bite. SO. GOOD.
While browsing Bon Appetit’s website (as I do most days) I stumbled upon this shortcake recipe for summer’s other best fruit, strawberries. I decided to try it with peaches, and subsequently decided this is going to be a go-to year after year. Usually I’d brag on my baking skills, but it’s almost impossible to make something bad when the fruit is so good.
