Strawberry Picking

at Green Door Gourmet

The beginning of May means one thing–it’s strawberry season. Since I moved back to Nashville, strawberry picking at Green Door Gourmet has become one of my favorite summer traditions. For just $10 you get a basket and as long as you need to find the ripest, sweetest strawberries on the farm.

Picking season is short and something to celebrate. At Green Door there’s always a surprise like live music, baby goats, or a true farm-to-table dinner. The events go on all year, but they’re even more fun when you get to leave with your own pint of strawberries. Plus, when the festivities are over, you can stop by their market for more fresh fruits, vegetables, and local meats.

With this year’s pint, I decided to eat a few fresh and use the rest to make one of my favorite recipes–this strawberry galette from Bon Appetit. This way I’ll get to enjoy the best strawberries of the year without worrying about them going bad. I’m already looking forward to next season!
