As a total millennial, I don’t have everyone’s phone numbers, but I do know their Instagram handles. I was thrilled when I saw my friend Phil’s pop up in my dms this morning. An unplanned night turned into a birthday get-together in Brooklyn with a few Mississippi friends and a few new ones.

Start time was 8, so I showed up at 8:30 and still managed to be the first to arrive. I played catch up with Phil and Mary Marge for 20 minutes before guests started trickling in. There were lots of drinks (clear liquors only at first!), microwavable pierogis, and thinks to my last minute hunger stop before hopping on the subway, there was a strawberry pop-tart spread as well. And Mary Marge made blueberry pie.

Phil is turning twenty-something, and rather than count out the candles, we went with one large one. I think it looks pretty nice! Happy Birthday!
