The World’s Best Looking Breakfast

At Davelle in New York City

This is the breakfast I’ve been waiting for. I’ve been lurking Davelle’s instagram page for months before I knew I’d be visiting New York. They have lunch offerings, but I haven’t been able to think about anything but the toast. Every single one of their toasts is a work of art, and I’m determined to try them all before I leave.

The bread they use is Japanese Milk Bread, the same kind used to make panko bread crumbs. It’s light and fluffy and perfect for breakfast. For my first visit I went with the cream cheese and berry jam toast, swiped into a perfect checkerboard. Of course I took 1000 pictures before I took a bite. Satisfyingly, it did taste as good as it looked.

The space itself is on a quiet street in the LES. There are three small tables and one small bar. The staff is friendly and they keep jazz on all day. It’s one of those places that make you feel like you left the real world and stepped into a dream. It’s going to be hard to leave this place. I wonder if I could convince them to open in Nashville?
